Côtes des Blancs

Côte des Blancs map

The Côte des Blancs lies south of Épernay and forms a long ridge of hills running from north to south. It is one of the most iconic parts of Champagne, famed for its near-exclusive planting of Chardonnay. Deep chalk soils bring a distinctive minerality and finesse, and the wines are known for their freshness, elegance and excellent ageing potential.

The Côte des Blancs is the benchmark for Blanc de Blancs champagnes: pure, delicate, often with floral and citrus notes. Its terroir gives Chardonnay an unrivalled expression, admired worldwide.

The area includes 6 Grand Cru villages: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Oiry. There are also several Premier Cru villages, including Vertus and Cuis, each showing its own expression of Chardonnay.

The Côte des Blancs is Chardonnay at its purest: refined, mineral and timeless, an essential pillar of Champagne’s identity.
