Vallée de la Marne

The Vallée de la Marne follows the Marne River from Épernay to beyond Château-Thierry, forming the link between the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. The gentle slopes along the river create a warmer microclimate, while clay, sand and limestone soils produce rich, fruity wines with a soft structure.
This region is Pinot Meunier country, a grape that ripens beautifully here thanks to sheltered valleys and moisture-retaining soils. Meunier brings expressive fruit, roundness and charm, and it plays a key role in many blends by adding suppleness and balance.
The Vallée de la Marne has one Grand Cru village: Aÿ. It also includes 8 Premier Cru villages: Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Bisseuil, Avenay-Val-d’Or, Mutigny, Dizy, Hautvillers, Cumières and Champillon.
Champagnes from this area are known for their warm, approachable style, with ripe fruit and a gentle texture. An elegant expression of Pinot Meunier at its best.
