Champagne is a product of exceptional quality, and when you buy a bottle, it has already gone through careful ageing. In most cases, it has spent at least 15 months in the cellars of the grower or house and is ready to enjoy right away.

But did you know you can also keep champagne for a few more years? With the right storage conditions, it won’t just keep its qualities, it can even develop more flavour and complexity.

Golden rules for storing champagne:

  • Position: champagne bottles can be stored upright or on their side.
  • Temperature: store bottles in a cool place with a stable temperature between 10 and 15°C.
  • Humidity: keep humidity high and stable, between 60% and 80%.
  • Protection: keep bottles away from light, vibrations and strong odours.
  • Ventilation: the storage area should be well ventilated to avoid musty air.

Follow these guidelines and your champagne will stay in perfect condition, so your customers can enjoy the best possible tasting experience.

Extra tip for professionals: consider setting up a dedicated storage space that meets all these conditions.

How to open a bottle of champagne
Opening a bottle of champagne can be impressive. Because of the pressure, the cork can shoot out with force, especially if the bottle has been shaken.
